Changes in soluble sugar contents in the leaf, stem and grain of winter wheat and their relationship with grain starch accumulation

Changes in soluble sugar contents in the leaf, stem and grain of winter wheat and their relationship with grain starch accumulation

Journal of Triticeae Crops 21(3): 38-41

Sugar content in flag leaf, penultimate internode and grain, and starch accumulation rate of two winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) cultivars were investigated in a hydroponic culture experiment. Peaks of total soluble sugars and sucrose in the flag leaf occurred 15-20 days after anthesis. Contents of total soluble sugars, sucrose and fructosan in the penultimate internode showed single-peak curves and their maximum contents also occurred 15-20 days after anthesis.
