Chemical induction mutation in yellow peel watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) and its application to tetraploid watermelon breeding

Chemical induction mutation in yellow peel watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) and its application to tetraploid watermelon breeding

China Vegetables 3: 8-11

Seeds of diploid yellow peel watermelon (YPW) single-plant line 2608 were sown in a protected field on 26 February 1998. Seedlings were treated with 0.2% colchicine at the 1-2 leaf stage. Seedlings were transplanted on 17 April. The mutation characteristics of organs and physiological changes were investigated. Reliability of different identification methods (based on morphology, microscopy and hybridization) of tetraploid mutations was compared.
