The cryptogein genes was obtained by PCR from the genomic DNA of Phytophthora cryptogea and verified by DNA sequencing. A promoter of a rice phenylalanin ammonia-lyase (PAL) was selected to control the expression of the cryptogein gene. A chimaeric construct was designed in which the region of the cryptogein gene was fused to the signal sequence of the extracellular pathogenesis-related PR1b protein of tobacco. The final construct was cloned into a binary vector (CHF3).
