Prevention of coccidiosis is a basic principle of successful poultry breeding and remains one of the key preconditions for the development of industrial broiler production. Synthetic chemicals and ionophoric coccidiostats such as monensin, or their combination, have previously been used to control coccidiosis but parasite resistance to these drugs is increasing.
