Colostrum intake and utilization in the newborn calves

Colostrum intake and utilization in the newborn calves

Roczniki Naukowe Zootechniki (Supl, z. 15): 145-150

This study was conducted in 61 single-born Black-and-White dairy calves of both sexes (33 heifers and 28 bulls). The share of Holstein-Friesian gene pool in the calves ranged from 50.0 to 96.9%. Within the first 5 days after birth, the calves were fed with fresh dam's colostrum twice a day, using a bucket with nipple. The first feeding was conducted within the first hour of birth.
