Comparative economics of ginger (Zingiber officinale Rose.) cultivation in paddy fields and uplands (open, vacant areas)

A field trial was conducted on one hectare each of a paddy field and an upland area in Kadagadal and Coorg (Karnataka, India) to analyse the economics of ginger production during the year 1998-99 in paddy field and upland situations, separately and simultaneously in the same locality. The study revealed that the cultivation of ginger involved almost equal expenses, while a contrasting output was noticed with almost 1.64 times greater yield in paddy fields than in upland situations.
