Comparative studies on the seedling copper tolerance of various hexaploid wheat varieties and of spelt in soil with a high copper content and in hydroponic culture

Comparative studies on the seedling copper tolerance of various hexaploid wheat varieties and of spelt in soil with a high copper content and in hydroponic culture

Acta Agronomica Hungarica 51(2): 199-203

DOI: 10.1556/aagr.51.2003.2.8

Experiments were conducted to elaborate a soil-based technique suitable for determining the copper tolerance of various wheat (Triticum aestivum) cultivars (Chinese Spring, Hope, Cheyenne, Cappelle Desprez and Bankuti 1201) and allowing the simultaneous testing of a large number of cultivars under conditions approaching those found in the field. Copper treatment was carried out by mixing copper sulfate (CuSO4) to dry soil or by spraying the soil with CuSO4 solution.
