Evaluation of the quality of water supplied by water-purifying stations is necessary due to the continuous environmental degradation of hydrological resources. 549 samples of drinking water destined for human consumption were collected in Campinas, Sao Paulo State, Brazil, and examined by the multiple tubes (MPN) and enzymatic chromogenic substrate (Colilert) methods.
