Infection and colonization of root tissues of the spring wheat Nandu by P. graminicola (Pg; isolate 7) and G. graminis var. tritici (Ggt; isolate 95) were comparatively investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and immuno-gold or enzyme-gold labelling techniques. TEM observations revealed that the cortex tissue of wheat roots was infected and colonized by Pg 5-8 days after inoculation (dai) and Pg hyphae were never detected in the inner stele tissues.
