The Yili area is located in the west of Xinjiang (China) and is an intermontane basin of Tianshan, in which the loess is widespread. The grain size of loess and reworked loess were analysed. The composition of the loess is similar to that of the reworked loess, but the sand fraction of the loess is higher and the clay fraction lower than that of reworked loess. The frequency curve of loess and reworked loess is a positive normal distribution.
