The demand for wooden crates to market fruit and vegetables in this Argentinian region is great. Trials until the late 1980s showed that the clones of Populus deltoides were the best adapted to the area, with I-63 being the best. In order to find clones superior to I-63, a field trial was established in 1990 to compare clones 103/69, I-41/70, 107/68, 229/68 and I-63/51 (control).
