Concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soils of arable land in Poland

Concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soils of arable land in Poland

Journal of Research and Applications in Agricultural Engineering 48(1): 5-8

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) belonged to organic xenobiotics, which are strongly toxic to the soil environment. They formed as a result of high temperature burning of solid and liquid biolytes. On the basis of initial monitoring of soils in Poland (216 samples derived from upper horizons), it was found that they were characterized by a relatively low levels of PAH contamination.
