The two systems compared were a herd of 19 Norwegian Red cows kept under organic farming conditions, with spring calving and high milk production during the grazing season (May to September), and a herd of 48 cows of the same breed kept under conventional conditions, with calving from September to December. Milk samples were taken monthly from individual cows in each group, from April to December in the organic group and from October to December in the conventional group.
