The effects of cultivar, sowing date, N rate, and Heliothes control on sunflower production in farmers' fields at Yacharam, Manchal, and Ibrahimpatnam, Rangga Reddy district, Andhra Pradesh, India, were studied from 1992 to 1995. Hybrid MSFH-8 gave a 200% higher yield than the conventionally grown Mordan in both kharif and rabi seasons. Sowing of sunflower in the first and second week of August reduced seed yield by 14 and 37%, respectively, compared to sowing in the second fortnight of July.
