The Barbels in Algeria are largely represented as wild populations. The difficulty in distinguishing the different species which constitute the genus Barbus by using the biometrics methods is largely cited in the literature. To clarify the variability level of these Cyprinid fishes, we have explored several aquatic systems, notably in the North of the country, where eight representative samples were analysed by electrophoresis.
