The efficacy of a B. thuringiensis formulation (Foray 48B, 10.6 I.U./mg) to control Thaumetopoea pityocampa on Austrian pine (Pinus nigra var. austriaca) stand edge along public roads in Italy was investigated during 1996-97. The effects of the formulation on nontarget arthropods were also studied. The formulation was applied twice in September at low volume from the ground when the pest population was more than 90% in the 1st and 2nd larval instar.
