A field experiment was conducted during rainy season of 1994-98 at Dehradun, Uttaranchal, India to evaluate the performance of 4 maize plant population levels, viz. 40 000, 55 000, 70 000 and 85 000 ha-1, with and without paired rows of cowpea or blackgram as intercrop in between the rows of maize for canopy developments, resource conservation, productivity and net return.
