DUMPS, the acronym for Deficiency of Uridine Monophosphate Synthase, is a lethal inherited disorder of cattle. Homozygous recessive genotype results in embryonic mortality around 40 days post-conception. A total of 1688 DNA samples from 1468 Holstein cattle, 139 Taiwan Yellow cattle, 70 Brahman and 11 Santa Gertrudis were tested. Only two carrier cows were found in 1468 Holsteins with a frequency of 0.14%. Hence, the inherited DUMPS had less impact in Taiwan Holstein population.
