Damage caused by capybaras (Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris) in a maize field in Sao Paulo, Brazil, was investigated. Systematic sampling indicated that 26% of the planted area were damaged by capybaras, and the highest percentage of damage occurred in borders of the maize field (t=4.5698, p=0.0001).
