Insects damaging maize plants in an industrial plot in Bacsalmas, Hungary were studied. The most dominant among the insects observed on maize ears not covered by husk leaves was Notoxus brachycerus, followed by N. appendicinus and Formicomus pedestris. These pests feed on maize seeds at the end of July or in early August. As many as 10 to 15 beetles per ear were observed feeding on the newly developed seeds, as well as the waxy-ripe seeds.
