C. officinalis plants were grown in Hoagland's nutrient solution deficient in N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn or Zn. Deficiency symptoms for each element in young and old leaves are described and data are tabulated on plant height, fresh and dry weight of aerial parts and roots, and macro- and micronutrient contents of healthy and deficient plants. N, P, K and B deficiency had the greatest effect on plant growth.
