Derepression of the activity of A. thaliana heat shock transcription factor AtHSF1 has been achieved by the transgenic expression of AtHSF1-glucuronidase fusion proteins (HSF-GUS) in A. thaliana. In the present study, we investigated the potential of chimaeric AtHSF1 protein fusions for causing heat shock protein (HSP) synthesis, independent from heat stress, in a heterologous plant species (Nicotiana tabacum).
