A study was conducted to determine the value of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the detection of Opisthorchis viverrini eggs in human faeces. Faecal specimens were collected from 85 parasite-infected individuals at the Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University in Thailand. The specimens consisted of 40 O. viverrini, 10 intestinal flukes, 10 hookworms, 10 echinostomes, 7 Taenia, 3 Strongyloides stercoralis, 2 Entamoeba coli and 3 mixed infections.
