Detection of Plasmodium falciparum-IgG and incidence of asymptomatic malaria in pregnant women in Nigeria

Detection of Plasmodium falciparum-IgG and incidence of asymptomatic malaria in pregnant women in Nigeria

Indian Journal of Malariology 39(1/2): 39-42

ISSN/ISBN: 0367-8326

In Nigeria, 229 pregnant women (aged 20-35 years) without any signs and symptoms of malaria were recruited The women were screened for malaria parasites and divided into asymptomatic malaria (n=139) and uninfected (n=90) groups. Plasmodium falciparum-specific IgG was determined using indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results revealed no significant difference in malaria parasite density among women with asymptomatic malaria at different gestational age or gravidity.
