A study was conducted in Slovenia to determine the potential of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) to produce accurate and robust estimates of the chemical composition, in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) and gas production of forage (Lolium multiflorum, L. perenne, Phleum pratense, Dactylis glomerata, Festuca rubra, F. pratensis and Trifolium pratense). A total of 100 dried samples of forage, harvested 3 or 4 times during 1997-99 were analysed.
