The most serious insect pests of sugarcane in Australia are sugarcane whitegrubs or canegrubs. Collaborative research between the BSES, CSIRO, Bio-Care Technology Pty Ltd and the Sugar Research and Development Corporation has led to the registration in 2000 of BioCane, a biopesticide based on isolate FI-1045 of M. anisopliae var. anisopliae for control of greyback canegrub (Dermolepida albohirtum).
