Quantification of water infiltration is of great interest for the design of efficient irrigation systems, in environmental studies, in the determination of soil erosion, in the analysis of soil crusting susceptibility and for the reclamation of salt-affected soils. The classic methods for measuring soil infiltration rates are tedious, inaccurate and time consuming.
