Development of male sterile lines of snap bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) varieties using male sterile cytoplasm detected from a cultivar Kurodane Kinugasa

Research Highlights JIRCAS 2001: 36-37

Cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) lines of P. vulgaris were developed by backcrossing Kurodane Kinugasa as a non-recurrent female parent with cultivars Haibushi, Kentucky Wonder, Sabel, Ishigaki No. 2, Golden Wax, Kurosando, Kamogawa Green, Nerina, Ichizu, Sayakazari and Supander as recurrent male parents. In the CMS lines, green hypocotyls were dominant over purple hypocotyls.
