Development of semi-forced culture of Japanese pear 'Kousui' making use of the climatic conditions in Fukui, Japan

The cropping pattern of the Japanese pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) 'Kousui', a leading variety in Japan, under semi-forced culture was simulated by adopting the developmental rate method model. The fuel cost for heating was calculated as a heating degree-hour (cumulative temperature difference per hour between the inside and outside of the greenhouse). The effect of the quantity of solar radiation on the amount and the types of accumulated sugar in mature fruits were also investigated.
