Development quality and early postnatal adaptation of dairy calves to different types of husbandry

Development quality and early postnatal adaptation of dairy calves to different types of husbandry

Landbauforschung Volkenrode 51(4): 185-194

ISSN/ISBN: 0458-6859

Dairy calves and their dams were investigated by taking note of their blood samples, body weight, and heart rate after birth and repeated in calves again at 15 days of age rearing the animals in groups with an automatic milkfeeder (groups Gk and Gw) or stalled in single boxes (group E) since the first day of life. Venous blood samples were analysed for acid-base balance, hematocrite, hamoglobin content, hemoglobin derivatives and variants, gas content and gas pressure.
