The response of 11 cultivars (CIM-443, BH-121, FH-137, CIM-448, BH-118, Cargil hybrid, FH-59, CIM-240, MNH-554, CIM-465 and CIM-1100) of cotton, G. hirsutum, to 3 NaCl concentrations (0, 150 and 200 mM) were compared at seedling stage. The NaCl salinity resulted in significant reduction in shoot and root lengths of all the genotypes, but the effect was more pronounced on roots. On the basis of relative and absolute salt tolerance, using root length data, 3 cultivars, i.e.
