Direct shear properties of a compacted soil with known stress history

Direct shear properties of a compacted soil with known stress history

Unsaturated soils for Asia Proceedings of the Asian Conference on Unsaturated Soils, UNSAT ASIA 2000, Singapore, 18-19 May 2000: 557-562

Stress history of soil profile is required in order to evaluate the shear strength of the compacted soil. Stress state variables of the in situ profile for an unsaturated soil consist of the confining pressure and matric suction. It is difficult to define overconsolidation ratio for unsaturated soil or compacted soils. This study used total stress ratio instead of overconsolidation ratio for compacted soils.
