Recent tendencies are discussed of development of distribution channels for fresh fruit and vegetables characterized by limited numbers of suppliers and increasingly concentrated demand. Changes are emphasized in the traditional wholesale market system with sellers and buyers gathering in the same place and a warning is given of dangers of the structural crisis of wholesale markets. Issues are discussed of marketing channels and retailing, costs of distribution and transactions.
