Diverse aspects of long-term fertilizing of natural grassland

Ekologia Travneho Porastu VI Lucno pasienkove ekosystemy podhorskych a horskych oblasti Strednej Europy CR PR SR, Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, 10-11 December 2002: 173-175

Intensive fertiliser application to natural grassland at inappropriate rates and timing results in damage to the environment. Phosphorus is a limiting element affecting yield by up to 50%; an annual rate of 20-30 kg/ha is sufficient to apply to natural grasslands. A K rate of 15-30 kg/ha is sufficient per year. Some plant species are able to take up potassium from soil. The application of nitrogen fertiliser caused a 200-300% increase in Cd, Mn and Cr content in soil.
