Docosahexaenoic acid-rich marine oils and improved reproductive efficiency in pigs

Male fertility and lipid metabolism: 60-72

The lipid or fat constituents of the male gamete and associated seminal fluid are quite unique in their composition and fatty acid content. In the majority of the main tissues, long chain polyunsaturates, i.e., fatty acids of 20 and 22 carbon atoms chain length containing more than two double bonds, are present to a limited extent in the lipid fractions, their levels in the lipids of the spermatozoa and seminal plasma are extremely high and show distinctive species specificity.
