Dracunculiasis eradication in endemic French-speaking African countries

This paper reports the progress in dracunculiasis eradication during January-September 2002 in 8 French-speaking African countries, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Cote d'Iviore, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Togo. A total of 2317 dracunculiasis cases were reported from 452 villages and 26 hamlets in the 8 countries. The 3 countries that reported the highest number of cases were Togo (n=921), Mali (n=552) and Burkina Faso (n=419).
