The dynamic system described depends on a thorough knowledge by the stockman of the quality of the feed provided, resulting from analysis of the ingredients of commercial feed and careful note of the characteristics of the forage produced on the farm (length of ensiled material, etc.). Equipment (the Penn State Separator) is useful in assessing the physical quality of commercial feed and forage.
