Economy and organization of the French horse sector

Economy and organization of the French horse sector

Comptes rendus de l' Academie d' Agriculture de France 87(5): 107-135

The horse industry is an agricultural but not a food producing one. The industry is largely financed by the racing betting system, which supports the racing activity running, breeding, riding, local promotion actions as well as French horses and expertise in this field. There are more than 500 000 horses in France with about 6000 stallions and 100 000 mares from 45 different breeds, and this population is increasing. Valorization and horse trade are very important.
