Ectopic fat accumulation: an important cause of insulin resistance in humans

Ectopic fat accumulation: an important cause of insulin resistance in humans

Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine 95(Suppl): 39-45

ISSN/ISBN: 0141-0768

PMID: 12216326

This paper examines data suggesting the critical role of ectopic fat accumulation in the liver and skeletal muscle in the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Possible mechanisms relating ectopic fat accumulation to insulin action are described.
