Effect of Persea cordata Mez (Lauraceae) barks pomatum on guinea pig surgical wound healing

Effect of Persea cordata Mez (Lauraceae) barks pomatum on guinea pig surgical wound healing

Revista Brasileira de Plantas Medicinais 3(2): 31-35

ISSN/ISBN: 1516-0572

Ten guineapigs (500-600 g) were subjected to surgical wounds, in which an area (2 cm in diameter) of skin and subcutaneous tissue was removed. The animals were treated with ointment from P. cordata bark, lanolin and/or merbromin for 15 consecutive days. The wound borders were measured every 3 days. Wounds treated with P. cordata ointment healed significantly faster than those treated with merbromin.
