The ethylene-release rate of the seedlings of 3 rice cultivars, namely Huaxianzhan (a high-quality rice, sensitive to acetochlor), Suilingzhan (a conventional one, tolerant to acetochlor) and Yueyouqingzhan (a hybrid, moderately tolerant to acetochlor), was studied. In all cultivars treated with acetochlor, the ethylene-release from the first to the fifth day after germination was inhibited, whereas on the sixth day, the ethylene-release rate was induced.
