A 72-hour fermentation test with mixed rumen microorganisms was conducted to determine the response of microbial protein yield to six purified substrates with cellulose/starch (C/S) ratios of 0.14, 0.44, 0.94, 1.92, 4.75, and 15.76. The crude protein content was 14.22% (air-dried matter basis). The microbial nitrogen content in microbial organic matter fluctuated between 5.5 and 6.6%.
