Two hundred and sixteen 23-week-old Hyline brown egg-laying hens were randomly allocated to 6 groups and fed with basal diet plus 0, 6, 15, 30, 60 and 125 mg CuSO4.5H2O/kg, respectively. The duration of the experiment was 8 weeks. The addition of 30 mg copper sulfate/kg resulted in an obvious improvement in total antioxidation, activities of glutathione-S transferase, ceruloplasmin, and copper-zinc superoxide dismutase.
