Effect of different intercropping systems of onion and garlic on sugar beet yield, yield components and chemical analysis

The yield and composition of pure sugarbeet or sugarbeet intercropped with garlic or onion in ridges 60 or 120 cm wide were studied in Sakha and Kom Ousheem regions, Egypt, during 1998/99 and 1999/2000. At Sakha region, ridges 60 cm wide resulted in greater yields, yield components (top fresh weight, root weight, root length, and root diameter), and chemical components (percentage of sucrose, total soluble sugar, and purity) of pure sugarbeet or sugarbeet intercropped with onion and garlic.
