The effect of sodium chloride (NaCl) on the absorption and transportation of mineral elements in five Iranian cultivars of melon, namely Abbas shuri, Suski, Zarde Karaj, Khaghani and Tashkandi, was investigated. Half-strength Hoagland solution with final salinity levels of 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 g NaCl/litre were used for a period of 75 days. An increase in salinity level increased Na+, Cl- and Na+/K- ratio, but decreased K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ in leaf and root tissues.
