Effect of different sowing dates on heat-unit requirement for different phenophases of brown sarson (Brassica campestris) varieties and dynamics of aphid (Lipaphis erysimi) population

An experiment was conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, India, during winter (rabi) 1996-97 and 1997-98, to examine the effect of changing environments on different cultivars of brown sarson (B. campestris cultivars KS 101, KS 102 and KOS 1) and their interaction with the dynamics of the aphid (L. erysimi) population infesting them. Sowing was on 1 and 15 October, and 1 November. October-sown crops accumulated more thermal units and produced significantly higher yields than November-sown crops.
