Effect of different tillage systems on the recovery of soil structure following a single compaction event

On a Luvisol derived from loess the effect of conventional (CT) and conservation (CS) tillage systems on physical as well as mechanical soil properties was investigated. For the conservation tillage system sufficient transfer functions in combination with an improved soil strength were observed. During dynamic loading with 2 x 5 Mg wheel load a pronounced vertical and horizontal soil displacement in 10 cm depth was detected on CT compared to CS.
