Effect of direct and residual availability of zinc on yield and its uptake by maize (Zea mays L.) and raya (Brassica juncea L.)

The direct and residual effects of zinc on maize and Indian mustard grown in rotations for three years on zinc-deficient loamy sand were studied in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. Zinc as zinc sulfate was applied at 0, 2.8, 5.6, and 11.2 kg/ha to maize grown under the first cropping sequence. The grain yield of maize (initial crop) increased with the increase in zinc rate, whereas the yield of Indian mustard did not significantly increase with the increase in the fertilizer rate.
