A field experiment was conducted between 1998 and 1999 at the EID Parry sugar factory command area, Nellikuppam, Tamil Nadu, India, to assess the optimum dilution with irrigation water of distillery effluent used as an organic nutrient source for growing sugarcane crops in sandy soil. Irrigation with treated distillery effluent at 1:10, 1:20, 1:30, 1:40 and 1:50 dilutions was done every 40 days between 45 days and 6 months after planting.
