The effect of drought stress on a group of closely related plants (Graminae) and an associated sap-feeding insect were examined. A -0.2 MPa drought stress was imposed by adding measured amounts of Long Ashton Nutrient Solution to dry vermiculite. The growth of barley and 3 species of grass, Dactylis glomerata, Holcus lanatus and Arrhenatherum elatius, was studied. Drought stress significantly reduced plant growth in all species in terms of daily height and leaf growth.
